8 July: What do you think Loki’s relationship with Freyja is like? Feel free to replace Freyja with another god/dess or answer the question for multiple deities.
I think Freyja and Loki have a relatively decent relationship. And by “decent” I mean, decent in the way that two very strong, very passionate personalities interact. When I think of their relationship, I think of how I behave when I see someone who is like a mirror to my own intensity. I get defensive and annoyed at first but eventually simmer down and realize that they would make an excellent sidekick.
Like, I feel as though Loki and Freyja stand up for the other even though neither of Them would ever admit to it. Freyja can admit Loki is wise and clever and I feel as though Loki can admit that Freyja is an equal in that way. They are both passionate about what They do and both have a bone or two to pick with the Gods’ behavior as both of Them have been used as a pawn to get whatever the Gods want.
They both have Their own strong boundaries but approach things different. Where Freyja outright states Her displeasure, Loki will do the same but not without a grand gesture.
I feel like both of Them also desire a lot of attention. I don’t think I can deal with both Loki and Freyja at the same time. When She first came around, She was delightfully and terrifyingly very close to Loki’s intense energy and vibe. I cannot deal with both of Them in the same room – I begin to wonder if I’ve gone manic.
In regards to Loki and the rest of His relationships with the Gods, I think that He is extremely sociable and gets around. He is always “that guy who knows a guy” and has a long list of references to help out in most scenarios. I feel like He is kind of a “gateway” to the Gods because of His vast amount of relationships and at best, handshake relationships with other Gods and spirits and etc.
I know a lot of people like to view Him as an outcast but I personally think He’d probably pluck out His own eyeballs before He’d ever cease being able to talk to people and be with and among them. I also see this in the way I’ve watched Him interact with humans. He is open and endearing and approachable. I find it difficult to imagine His demeanor would change when He is among other Gods.
However, He is not hesitant to state exactly what His mood is at any time. If someone or Someone frustrates Him, He will make it known and clear right away. This level of authenticity seems to ring alarm bells in those who are inauthentic. In that way, He becomes quite a mirror – not everyone likes that.
