Many people speak of having a “godphone” while others shoot it down and say a “godphone” doesn’t exist. The fact of the matter is that the truth lies somewhere between the two things.
The most important thing to understand is that the Gods do not have language. The Gods’ language is non-physical. It uses metaphor and analogy to communicate. This is mostly interpreted best in creative mediums or analogical languages. Therefore, our communication that we would consider to be a “godphone” is not built upon whether or not we can hear Them actively speaking to us. They do not have to speak in our native tongue that They have already learned. They don’t need words to communicate.
Whether They can use our language is based on Their proximity to us. It is also based on how well They know our own ways of speaking and perceiving the world. This is in order to be more successful in our discerning of Their communication.
That being said, it is not impossible to have the kind of proximity to the Divine that you may actually hear Them speak in full sentences. This is akin to channeling and other forms of mediumship and would be along the spectrum of possessory work. This form of communication leaves little room for error or misjudgment and why it is an important skill to develop when seeking to understand the Divine.
That is why most people only ever end up hearing bits and pieces, if anything at all. Others end up using mostly divination or a collection of signs to string together a concept. This leaves room for error, assumptions as well as misinterpretation. Though it is not a requirement to be able to hear the Gods so clearly, it is necessary should you need to do Work for Them properly. Until that point, there will always be room for incorrect assumptions. It can be harmful to the community should you decide you are capable of it without putting in the necessary work.
As I have spoken before in my previous posts about Divine manifestation, different factors play into Divine communication, as well. None of it is black and white, either. It is important to find the levels of gray between the very few bits and pieces and how you can achieve more.
The two most important factors are proximity and manifestation. I have described these two things before but not fully in this context yet.
Proximity is defined as how “close” you are to the Gods. Like most metaphysical beings, it is not the actual physical geography of where the Gods are in relation to you. They are not actually all the way in Asgard and you are not so terribly distant from Them on Midgard, either.
Manifestation depends on how and where They might be present. How strongly They are present ultimately determines how obvious it might be for you to determine They are communicating. If They are fully manifested in whatever way They are able to be, you will most likely be aware of it. The stronger They manifest, the more impossible it is to ignore.
Look at these two things as the variables that create a radio wave. In order to tune the radio wave that you can listen in to the radio station you want, both of these variables need to be considered.
There are some caveats.
Proximity depends on how much the God wants to be around you and how “in tune” you are with Their energy.
Not all of the Gods want to speak to all humans all of the time. It isn’t a moral implication and not dependent on whether you are doing something wrong or not. It is the implication that we are not always going to be who every Deity speaks to all day, everyday. In fact, it is more likely that one Deity is making Themselves more apparent than all others to you. This is because you are more “in tune” with Them. You are naturally more inclined to speak to Them first. They are more inclined to speak to you. Should you be less in tune with Them naturally, it can make communication difficult. Not every Deity wishes to bridge that gap for you. Typically, there is not more than one or two Deities at one time.
If They are not already seeing the benefits of speaking to you plainly, They likely will not go through the long and challenging work of having open communication and so They must be careful on deciding who it is They speak to. It isn’t just difficult for us humans. It can be difficult for Them, as well. They try to engage with us on the level we need Them to be at. This effort is hard and emotional for Them as it is for us. They do not actively exist here. It requires Their own kind of trial and error to make it work.
That isn’t to say that They are not present. Being present and being manifested are two different things. They can be present and not be entirely aware of everything that goes on. We need to actively do things to make sure They are aware. It is like having blinders on. They are aware of the ideas and overarching issues in your life but They can become more aware of specifics the more They have manifested.
For example, creating a shrine and having objects connected to Them can make Them more aware of us. To actively manifest Them beyond the shrine to communicate, it takes a bit more work from both sides. It is a spectrum and not a black and white answer.
They also do not wish to waste Their time when They know you are not going to be listening to Them. It isn’t that They are being rude, per se. Whether we are open or not to what They are saying depends on what kind of context we have. It also depends on how willing we are to believe that we are hearing the voices of the Gods.
If you spend too long beating yourself up for being unworthy, you will not be open to listening. They have to go above and beyond to get your attention to shake you of this notion. This is easier to get past than having the notion of hearing Them and being wrong.
Believe it or not, people with more “experience” can have more trouble than the beginner. They have already established self-developed understandings of the Gods in some capacity and invested time and emotion which would make them unwilling to overlook that. Unfortunately, they have trouble hearing Them just the same if not less so. After some time, people figure the Deity they have been reaching out to has lost interest when in reality, a lot of the time it is because their framework has become outdated.
It is important to be in the middle. Be open to being wrong. Also, be open to acknowledging that what you are hearing possibly is not be Them all of the time. It is not something to be ashamed of. Everyone is wrong until they have learned better.
Sometimes the Gods will want you to be wrong because it works for Their benefit for the time being. Sometimes, They imply that you are wrong on occasion and drop hints. When you do not figure it out, They pull back. They will continue to do so until you figure it out. It is like a sort of positive and negative reinforcement. The truth is, we do not hold all of the cards. We on our own do not fully define a relationship with Them. They put as much work into this as we do, if not more.
In summary, the levels of communicating, therefore, depend on openness, manifestation, and proximity.
Some variables, like proximity, you cannot control as much. The determining factor about what Deity is more “in tune” with you likely has already happened without you realizing it. The Gods typically have already found a way to reach out to you. You have already reached out to Them whether you realize it or not. It requires both sides to be up for it at the end of the day.
Whether they are more “in tune” with you or not determines the difficulty in succeeding. This influences the variables of being open and manifestation.
If you are having a hard time discerning what They are saying, it is likely not 100% your fault. It takes two to tango as they say, and that is the same with the Gods should you wish to have this sort of communication.
This post wraps up quite a few of my other blog posts into one before I begin talking about practical steps in being able to communicate. I have linked them accordingly so make sure you take a look at those.
It is important to first have the basics down of creating a shrine, developing rapport, and determining whether or not you are “in tune” with a Deity or not. Until that point, communication can and will be shakier than it would be had you already had that down. It will also leave room for more disappointment and doubt that can be discouraging and unhelpful.
