Devoured by Flame

I have spoken on egregores and sock puppets but I have not yet spoken on ways that you can deter these things from infringing on your experience of the Divine.

There is not really a “whether you are doing this right or wrong” that you can talk about, but there is a way to make things more effective in the way of allowing for the Divine to be within your home. The Divine are not sock puppets or egregores and can easily correct the information that once confused the beginning practitioner. 

Most people talk about clearing your mind or getting into a more balanced state in order to be opened up to the Divine and that mostly isn’t possible. It makes the fact that experiencing the Divine is a trick or a cool talent that somebody is good at when that’s not always the case. The fact is, the Divine are an inherent part of existence. Whether or not you can be with Them does not rely on how good you are at sensing Them but rather how good you are at redirecting energy in order to maintain a more stable environment for Them to exist in.

Putting in the work and time can ultimately lead to successfully manifesting the Divine within your home and you don’t even have to pull your hair out comparing other people’s experiences to yours in order to get there. In fact, stop looking at what everyone else is doing momentarily. Step back and away from the community. You’re not going to need them where you’re headed so it doesn’t ultimately matter what they are doing. 

The Divine are going to exist whether we want Them to or not. They are just as a part of this world as we are, and there are ways to bring Them deeper in. The sooner you accept that, the easier it will be to be more at peace with how you go about your devotional workings and whatever else you decide would be appropriate for your workings with the Divine. 

Now, let’s get into chemistry. Specifically, thermodynamics. Thermodynamics, in case you missed science class or it’s been a while, is the laws of how energy moves from one area to another. It is how temperature is given a numerical number and how matter is transitioned from one state to another. When we compare these things to metaphysics, and we consider that everything around us has a certain amount of energy, we can easily compare the metaphysical component of thermodynamics with the more observable one. 

If you’ve ever walked into a place and determined that it is a positive space to be in, or if you’ve ever gone to a concert and had chills while listening to the music, that is energy that is regularly stored within the aether being transferred to a more observable kind of energy which is your emotional experience of an object, person, being, thing, or idea. 

The Divine can be observable just like one would feel emotions while listening to music. Just like there’s certain melodies that are more likely to make people cry than others, there’s certain environments that are more likely to store Divinity within it than others. The same could be said for spirits or ancestors, but those are a bit easier for them to manifest given that they do not take up an enormous amount of energy within them. Ancestors were once humans and this plane is already suitable for them to remain in, and spirits are also a part of this world as they tend to take residence in reference to place and people. 

Deities are a bit more flexible which is why I am talking more about Them than about other Unseen beings because They are a handful and also most religions tend to completely ignore this quality about Them. 

The laws of thermodynamics are also the laws of energy transference which can create the physical embodiment, presence, or place in which the Divine can reside. 

I will go through each law of thermodynamics and compare it to metaphysical energy and how the Gods can present Themselves given the indicated law. 

• When two systems are the same temperature, the third system must also be the same temperature.

In layman’s terms, if a room is at 72 degrees, the furniture within the room will also be 72 degrees. Compared to the Divine presence, if a person is also within the range of the Divine, They will likely be able to experience Them as well. However, if the environment of that person is within a closed space, the Divine would not be able to intrude given that they are not existing within that same circuit of energy as the others in the room experiencing Them.

Just like how the exterior of a cooler is not the same temperature of the interior, the cooler is also not going to experience an increase of temperature just by being in the same room as the outside. 

That being said, if a Deity is within the room of a non-believer, aforementioned non-believer will likely not be able to receive the energy of the Deity within the room. They will be closed off to the outside environment and therefore not be at the same level of energy that those who are being impacted in the room would be at. Another way of viewing it is if one does not believe it possible for the Divine to manifest in any way, they will also be unresponsive to the Divine manifesting. 

Another way of looking at the cooler is that the Divine can only manifest within it as there is significantly less external conflict arising from within which makes it suitable for Their presence. We can be within that cooler if we are willing to freeze. Which is uncomfortable in this day and age – to create less entropy surrounding us can take a long time and it can even take years or decades, but we can become a place and person more suitable for the Divine to dwell if only because that is what makes us human in the first place.

We are meant to reside within this metaphorical cooler and to exist in alignment with the Divine as it would create peace of mind and less desire to make things happen that would take us out of Their arms. 

• Energy can change forms but neither are created nor destroyed.

Energy can change based on a variable of factors. Just like how water turns into ice but maintains the same energy of it, it takes the outside environment working into the water to turn it into ice or snow. Water droplets become freezing rain, which become freezing puddles outside. The heat turns ice into water and the same concept applies all over again.

In the metaphysical sense, if a Deity is close to a human, They do not suddenly stop existing once They are no longer there or if the human no longer senses the Divine presence. Same could be said vice versa as just because someone is sensing a Divine energy does not make that Divine presence physically manifesting near the person. It can radiate towards a presence but it could also not be near a human.

Which sounds terrifying but looking at it in another function is just because They are manifesting around someone else, doesn’t mean They are impacting the environment They are in but it doesn’t mean that They are no longer Divine or no longer within or without a person. 

It is the same ordeal as the polytheists before us experienced except it was easier for them to pick up on it due to the environment they were in being a more suitable one for the Divine to reside in. The laws of physics never stopped applying, we just didn’t pick up on it because we had no context for the Divine to be experienced in a way that fit within the framework They are a part of. 

• Entropy of an isolated system always increases.

This essentially states that the arrow of time is never moving backward. We will always get older, time is never going to go backwards. Space is always going to be expanding infinitely. 

With the Divine, They will always get older. They do not exist within a vacuum. They will always be learning and picking up on things just like we do. They will never see us as anything else but the world we are a part in and They will never expect things to go back to the way they were before with the understanding that things must change and must move forward. Things in nature are cyclical but they move forward like a spiral instead of a wheel. 

In this way, you will never experience a Deity moving backwards in time. They may be experiencing fate in the way that it changes as it goes but They will never be less old than They already are regardless of how They may present themselves. 

This puts the argument of mythical time out of business. The Gods don’t exist in a vacuum. If any of the stories They had were real, They wouldn’t be here in the first place because They would be dead. Same thing goes for when we want Them to appear to us a certain way, we will already get what face They wear as They come modernly and not the face They wore a long time ago. 

If you are expecting Them to manifest in a way that They might have centuries ago, you would be likely to be disappointed. They have new understandings of how the old world needed to change anyway, and there isn’t a point in continuing the trend of historical practices in this day and age. 

The Norse Gods were not Vikings and are not dead as a result of Ragnarok. They exist now and They will forever as long as energy survives, so will They.

• Entropy of a system approaches a constant as it approaches absolute zero.

This states that energy that is decreasing will approach a constant as it heads towards zero. Just like how ice is formed when the temperature is at 0 Kelvin, the same can be said for all matter within each ground state.

In this law, the less chaos that surrounds us – emotional well-being is at a loss, health is poor, environment and living conditions are bad – the more likely it will be to ensure that a human can become a better environment to exist with a Deity. 

The Divine are at absolute zero in this context in which all entropy does not affect Them. We would need to be within the range of zero in order to be a more appropriate environment for the Deity to reside in. If we are close to zero, They would be even more likely to be there. 

This can also be said for temperature. As the entropy surrounding water molecules approach zero, as do the water molecules solidify. If the Divine are similar to these water molecules, entropy around Them becomes more stable as entropy decreases.

So think of things like meditation, mindfulness practices, and other things that keep your emotions, stability, and feelings in balance, your mind will also become more inhabitable to the Divine to manifest in a more palpable and realistic way.

For example, if you started taking medication for your emotional and mental health, the medication would be akin to being in a colder environment which would assist in creating less entropy and more sustainable to provide an environment for the Gods. This is true for all Gods – not just the ones who are relatively chaotic (cough, Loki, cough). 

The moral of the story is that thermodynamics are a great way of explaining the use of energy within and without. Without a cultural framework providing a more sustainable environment for us to live in, we are experiencing entropy which continues to make it less and less suitable for the Deities to reside within our homes, lives, religions, etc.

We are currently in a state of chaos when it comes to organized religion. On top of the fact that we are always going on social media and consistently fearing for the end of the world, these times are becoming less and less accessible for the Divine to function within. 

The only way we can decide to change that environment is for us to make choices that are in alignment with what it is that we need to prevent chaos from impacting our relationships with the Gods as well as allowing Them further access into our lives and experiences of Them. 

We do not exist in a bubble of entropy, but we can contain it in a way that the exterior has no impact on the interior. We can make ourselves the fridge in the heated home and surround ourselves with things that make us at peace and at home. 

After all, within each of us is a fragment of Divinity. We are all part of the Divine and the Divine are all a piece of us. It is inherent in our existence of humans to be at peace with the physical and corporeal manifestation of the Divine. The more we are aware of Their presence, the easier it would be to provide the environment for Them to exist, as well, without external factors acting upon our will.
