July for Loki – Day 10

10 July: How would you describe your relationship with Loki if you wanted to explain it to someone outside the Lokean community?

Ah. Yeah. I guess this is where it gets a little tricky. It depends on what level of relationship that I have with the person. If it is someone within the pagan community I would often either just say He is my fulltruí (most trusted friend) or “patron” (though I fucking hate that term), or just say we are “close.”

Most people don’t know what the fuck a Godspouse is unless they frequent the lokean community and I don’t really feel like explaining it to them. It’s usually not their business and I’m kind of tired of giving energy to people who don’t deserve it or would fully acknowledge and appreciate the level of relationship I have with Him.

I have a handful of people in my inner circle I have spoken to about this either on accident or just because I have 0 filter if you give me alcohol or a bad day. They’re usually respectful of my experiences and sometimes I’ll elaborate considering my work with Him is my primary target and other things kind of spring up on the side as a result (like, He’s taught me magic, journey work, seidr, etc). I also don’t usually say He taught me that because people find it weird.

Even just writing about this makes me vaguely uncomfortable. People who don’t know Loki usually don’t get or accept Loki to His entirety even when they allegedly say they do. I’ve just had to back out of a group for this reason among many others upon the realization that They actually don’t respect Him and I realized He never really showed up to the rituals we had in the first place (per His very vocal opinion prior to my departure). I suppose I’ll also write about that at some point but maybe when it’s less of a sore subject considering it just happened.

Regardless, Loki is the topic to people in the pagan community that is similar to the uncomfortable subject of centrists who are allegedly leftists and allegedly “welcoming.” They will say “we worship all Gods” but when push comes to shove, Loki still is a sore subject matter. And probably because of the box He hates being apart of.

And I guess to people outside of the pagan community, He is… idk. I usually won’t specifically state I work with Him unless they are familiar with polytheistic practices. Usually they’re not. If there’s anything Loki has taught me, it’s to keep things close to my chest that don’t belong to anyone.
